Candidate Statements: Vice President of Programs

Candidate statements from Caitlin Quinn and Chrissy Carr, nominees for the position of Vice President of Programs for 2021 are below.

Caitlin Quinn, Children's Librarian, Eagle Rock Branch

Hello. For those of you whom I have not yet met, my name is Caitlin, she/her, currently serving as the children's librarian at the Eagle Rock Branch. This November marks my five year anniversary with LAPL, and the Librarians’ Guild has supported me directly during my time here. I’d like to give back this coming year by organizing quality and creative programming for us.

Why VP of Programs, why now? This year has been hard, anybody with me? Between navigating the pandemic (and its consequences on our work and home lives), the enormity of the wildfires here in California, and a significant moment of social and political justice reawakening globally, we are all facing a lot. I cannot promise you that Guild-presented programs will lighten this load, but I do sincerely hope that as VP of Programs, I might serve to bring us the kind of programming that will keep us informed, keep us entertained, and keep us going.

Chrissy Carr, Adult Librarian, West Los Angeles Regional Branch

I'm Chrissy Carr and I'm running for Vice President of Programs.  I'm an adult librarian at West LA, recently moved from the Westwood branch where I spent 5 years and was a sub for 2 years before that.  I love programming and I often include food, whether catered or hand-baked; in my mind it's essential for a good gathering.  In my non-working hours I belong to several food and wine groups as well as maintaining my own Meetup group with almost 2000 members where I've planned events for the last 10 years.  I love LA for it's breadth of cuisines, have driven across town for good dim sum, and think that making sure everyone is fed after a long day at work prior to a meeting can only enhance their experience.  I look forward to a time when we can all meet again and break bread together.
